Thanking Jazz

Smokey rooms

Cello playing in the background

Cough, cough, cough

“What’s her name” (don’t say that!)

He blinks to water his dry irises

Murky brown follows him around

Pool hustlers can’t keep him down

The lady in red swings

He’s in a trance

Eyes sting

He’s in a trance

Opens wide

He sees her dance

And he forgets all the problems he has

Thanking jazz
